In this follow-up to Addison Addley and the Things That Aren’t There (2008), fifth-grader Addison’s mom decides that, given their home’s constant upkeep costs and two neighborhood break-ins, it’s time to move. But Addison’s determined to stay, and he devises a creative plan involving optical illusions and magic tricks to do so. Though his efforts go awry, his failures lead to surprising outcomes. Addison is a well-meaning, lively character whose entertaining narrative is told in short, suspenseful chapters that keep the story moving. Readers will also enjoy the fun activities, with the scientific explanations behind optical illusions and magic tricks accessibly conveyed. Grades 4-6. --Shelle Rosenfeld |
